NAT MA TAUNG (MT. VICTORIA)

What makes this 4-Day Tour enticing?

Day 1 Bagan – Chauk – Seik Phyu – Kan Pet Let

Start the day with a drive for approximately 8 hours to Nat Ma Taung (also known as Mt. Victoria). While en route, a brief stop can be made in Chauk, one of the original oil fields of BOC (UK), with "nodding donkeys" (oil-well pumps) still extracting oils nowadays, to visit the local market in Chauk. Afterward, you will cross Ayeyarwaddy River on the Anawyahta Bridge and arrive in a small town, Seik Phyu, from where the road will turn from a tarmac to an earthen road. Picnic lunch will be served en route. Arrive in Kan Pet Let, 4560' above sea level, in the late afternoon. A simple dinner is taken and overnight in Kan Pet Let. (B, L, D)

Day 2 Kan Pet Let – Trekking (4 hours)

This morning, take a short drive to the base camp, 5700 feet above sea level, and trail behind your guide on a steep footpath for 5 km in the National Park, forested with bamboo patches, rhododendron, oak, pine and other evergreen trees. This National Park is the habitat of diverse bird species.

The footpath leads to the summit of Nat Mat Taung (Mt. Victoria), which is also known as "Khaw Nu Som" in Chin language, meaning "Mount of Mother Land'. When you reach the summit, 10200 feet above sea level, you will be rewarded with the 360˙ magnificent view of the Chin Hills. Picnic lunch is served en route. In the afternoon, return to Kan Pet Let and explore the former town of Kan Pet Let where Chin tribes settled first but later moved to the present town in order to avoid the severe weather conditions and very low temperature. A simple dinner is taken and overnight in Kan Pet Let. (B, L, D)

Day 3 Kan Pet Let and environs

This day is dedicated to visit Chin Villages around the town of Kan Pet Let. The region around Kan Pet Let is the home to a number of Chin tribes, namely Pwyn, Upu and Yin Du (also known as Dai). Each and every Chin tribes has its own dialect although they live in the same region due to the difficult accessibility. Picnic lunch is taken en route. The highlights of today will be meeting with Chin ladies of tattooed faces, their way of weaving with hand looms, tribal people in their full costumes, etc. In the past, these tribes were animists and live on farming and hunting. Nowadays, most of them converted to Christianity and some villagers follow Buddhism thus living amicably in villages of mixed religions. Therefore, you will see different monuments of various religions including the remains of animism, such as posts where animals were sacrificed to propitiate deities, during your visits. A simple dinner is taken and overnight in Kan Pet Let. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Kan Pet Let – Bagan

Depart for to Bagan, again, passing by varied and scenic landscapes and with possibility to visit a number of villages on the way. A picnic lunch is taken en route. Arrive back in Bagan in the late afternoon. (B, L, -)

Important note:

  • A visit to Nat Ma Taung region is possible with a permit from Myanmar authorities only. Therefore, a prior arrangement to obtain the permit is required.
  • The condition of road after Seik Phyu is in poor condition. Ah Nyar Thar Travels and Tours will endeavour to let guests travel as comfortable as possible. However, we would like to reserve the right not to take any responsibility for the inconvenience caused which is beyond the control of Ah Nyar Thar Travels and Tours.
  • The tourism infrastructure in that region is almost non-existence and the accommodation available is of basic and simple quality. A tour to that region should not be larger than a group of 7 persons.
    The food and beverages including drinking water, medicines and other amenities have to be brought along from Bagan.
  • The temperature in December and January can be as low as 3 degree Celsius. It is recommended to bring along rain coats as there can be rain either in summer or winter when there is trough of low pressure over Bay of Bengal. It is not recommended to travel to that part of Myanmar during the monsoon season (i.e. from May to September).
  • Therefore, guests are to be informed in advance that this tour is to be regarded as a soft adventure.
